The KP-RETP PMU M&E/KM and Communication team, in coordination with RCU North and Business Mobilization Partner (BMP) Helvetas staff, conducted comprehensive field monitoring visits to the Districts of Swat and Lower Dir.
During these visits, the teams engaged with members of newly registered Professional Farmers Cooperative Organizations (PFCOs) and reviewed the operational performance of PFCO offices. These interactions provided valuable insights into on-ground progress and emerging needs.
The exercise was aimed at assessing implementation progress, identifying challenges, and enhancing support mechanisms to ensure effective and impactful delivery of project interventions at the field level.
KP-RETP remains committed to strengthening rural livelihoods through continuous engagement, monitoring, and responsive support.

Kick-off of an engaging two-day visit by the GAIN team, marked by an insightful introductory meeting. KP-RETP hosted an introductory meeting with the team from Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) at its PMU office in Peshawar. The discussion focused on exploring avenues to upscale nutrition interventions and identify key entry points for achieving improved nutrition outcomes, following the launch of a strategic global grant approved by International Fund for Agricultural Development. The Honorable Deputy Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Ms. Suraiya Bibi, inaugurated the offices of Professional Farmer’s Cooperative Organizations (PFCO’s) in Reshun, Charun and Booni-01 in District Upper Chitral.
As Chief Guest, Ms. Suraiya Bibi commended the achievements of KP-RETP and IFAD in Upper Chitral and reaffirmed her full support and cooperation for the effective and successful implementation of the program.

KP-RETP hosts successful Matchmaking Event to promote Public-Private–Producers Partnership (4P) in Animal Feed Sector. It featured a series of sessions including project overview presentations, private sector business showcases and producer group interactions. A dedicated Business-to-Producer (B2P) matchmaking session enabled direct engagement between companies and farmers to explore viable partnerships and business linkages.
Participants showed strong interest in collaboration, particularly in areas;
• Production and supply of silage and balanced animal feed
• Development of market linkages between producers and private firms
• Introduction of modern technologies and improved feeding practices

KP-RETP conducted one-day capacity building session for Management Committee members and newly recruited staff of the Professional Farmers Cooperative Organizations (PFCO’s), with active participation of BMP staff in Chitral Agribusiness Cluster.
Participants appreciated the initiatives of KP-RETP and International Fund for Agricultural Development and reaffirmed their commitment to applying the knowledge gained to strengthen PFCO operations and governance.
The session concluded successfully, contributing to enhanced institutional effectiveness and reinforced commitment of PFCO leadership and staff in Upper and Lower Chitral.

The M&E/KM Unit, PMU conducted a performance monitoring visit from 10–13 February to review progress and assess the quantitative and qualitative aspects of project implementation under BMP-REPID in Peshawar, Mardan and Nowshera. During the visit, progress review meetings were held with PFCOs, focusing on implementation processes from agribusiness mobilization to farmers’ registration. The team also assessed community engagement and PFCO members’ understanding of project objectives.

KP-RETP successfully conducted one-day training workshop in the Southern and Eastern Agribusiness Clusters to strengthen the institutional and financial management capacities of 14 PFCO’s staff members and Management Committee (MC) signatories.
The sessions focused on record keeping, procurement procedures, financial management and cross-cutting themes, aiming to enhance transparency, accountability and governance practices within PFCO’s.
A comprehensive presentation on Component II of KP-RETP was also delivered, encouraging PFCO’s to actively engage in the skill development program to ensure coherence and seamless integration of project interventions. The sessions were facilitated by key team members from the KP-RETP PMU and RCU staff.
The training concluded successfully, contributing to improved governance systems and strengthened record and financial management capacities of participating PFCOs across both clusters.

The three-days monitoring visit was conducted by the Director General and Director, Federal Planning Commission (M&E Unit). During the visit, project progress was presented by the Worthy Project Director, KP-RETP, followed by field visits to PFCOs in District Nowshera.
The visit also included meetings with the Manager Agribusiness, Manager M&E/Knowledge Management, Manager Employment & Job Placements and representatives of Business Mobilization Partners (BMPs), focusing on implementation progress, coordination and key outcomes under the project.

A consultative meeting was held at the office of the Project Director, KP-RETP, with the President and representatives of the Women Chamber of Commerce & Industries (WCCI), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The meeting focused on discussing a key intervention under KP-RETP Public-Private-Producer Partnerships (4Ps) and exploring the potential role of WCCI KP as a facilitating partner. Deliberations emphasized identifying suitable private sector partners, particularly for promoting women-led value chains such as embroidery and handicrafts, tailoring and related trades, to enhance inclusive agribusiness and entrepreneurship opportunities.

The exercise aimed to assess progress, identify challenges and strengthen support to ensure effective field-level implementation under KP-RETP.

KP-RETP Strengthens linkages between Skilled Youth with Industries and Potential Employers for Employment Promotion
KP-RETP organized a Seminar on Job Placement & Employment Promotion to connect industries and SMEs with skilled youth from ultra-poor of rural communities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The session highlighted paid internship opportunities of up to 12 months for Skills Development & Employment Promotion, aimed at enhancing practical skills, workplace readiness and employability through public-private partnerships.
Public and private sector stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to promote conducive opportunities of employment and inclusive economic growth in the province.

Field Engagements under IFAD Mission & KP-RETP:
The IFAD Supervision Mission, together with the KP-RETP Project Director and relevant team members, conducted field visits to Districts Charsadda, Swat, and Khyber. During these engagements, meetings were held with Professional Farmers Cooperative Organizations (PFCOs) to review progress on Agribusiness Plans, discuss implementation strategies, overall project activities and assess their role in enhancing farmers’ income.These interactions provided valuable insights into strengthening agribusiness activities and supporting rural communities through sustainable transformation.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Job Fair 2025
KP-RETP participated actively in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Job Fair 2025 organized by the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar. The event successfully connected graduating youth with diverse employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi, Chief Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, appreciated the valuable contributions of participating industries and entrepreneurs, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to empowering youth through stronger industry linkages. KP-RETP’s participation was closely aligned with the project’s Skill Development and Employability component.
Visitors showed strong interest in KP-RETP, engaging with our team to learn more about the opportunities and support available under the project as it aims at empowering youth, enhancing skills, and building brighter futures across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Competency-Based Testing (CBT) of UET graduates trained under the Vocational and Technical Skills Training component of KP-RETP was conducted at the Thana Institute of Technology, Barikot, Swat. Graduates were evaluated by accredited assessors and declared qualified or not qualified based on CBT criteria. The activity was carried out by UET Peshawar in collaboration with KP-RETP.

Sept 11, 2025 

KP-RETP Chitral team, in collaboration with Helvetas Chitral, successfully held the first general body meeting with the indigenous Kalash community in Rumbur Valley.

The meeting was unique in nature as it led to the establishment of the first female-owned PFCO under the jurisdiction of RCU Chitral. The management committee was democratically formed in the presence of the Cooperative Department.

Both the community members and the newly formed management committee expressed their appreciation for the KP-RETP and IFAD interventions in the region. They acknowledged this initiative as a vital opportunity to serve their communities while enhancing their indigenous knowledge and skills through structured agribusiness development.

A formal Terms of Partnership (ToP) signing ceremony was held with various PFCOs in Chitral, with almost all management committee members participating. The participants appreciated the KP-RETP and IFAD interventions in their region and committed to utilizing the KP-RETP and IFAD funds to improve their livelihoods through the structured promotion of agribusiness.

Aug 11-12, 2025 

Four Terms of Partnership (ToPs)/Agreements were successfully signed between KP-RETP and four PFCOs—two each in Nowshera and Swabi respectively. During the Swabi event, the PMU team accompanied the RCU and provided brief on M&E and GRM. Both events were conducted successfully, and appreciation from all the PFCOs were extended to the Government of KP, Planning & Development Department and KP-RETP for the undergoing interventions.

A successful signing ceremony for the Terms of Partnership (ToP) between KP-RETP and PFCOs was held at RCU D.I.Khan. During the event, formal partnership agreements were signed with eight registered PFCOs. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Shaban, Assistant Registrar Cooperative, the Regional Coordinator (Southern), and the RCU team. Members of the PFCO management committees, including Presidents and General Secretaries, actively participated in the ceremony.

The Signing Ceremony for the Terms of Partnership (ToPs)/Agreements under the KP Rural Economic Transformation Project (KP-RETP) for the centeral region was successfully held today on 6th August 2025 at Ternab, Charsadda. The KP-RETP M&E team, under the leadership of the Manager M&E/KM, concluded its monitoring field visit to RCU Chitral today. During the visit, the team visited five PFCOs located in Lower and Upper Chitral, established by RCU Chitral, as well as two potential communities that are mobilized by Helvetas for PFCO formation under Component 01. Under Component 02, the team monitored five ongoing training courses. Additionally, a meeting was held with BMP Helvetas to review progress and implementation status. The visit concluded with a debriefing session with the RCU Chitral team.

An online, six-day training session on Financial Software “QuickBooks” has commenced at the PMU Office Peshawar.

The session, led by Instructor Ali Khan and supervised by Sheraz Sb, is being attended by relevant officers and assistants from both PMU & RCUs respectively. Moreover, QuickBooks developed by Intuit, helps Govt Projects to manage payroll, inventory and other financial needs as per customized requirements.
 

June 19, 2025 

A one-day training session on “Mainstreaming SECAP, Gender-Inclusive, and Nutrition-Sensitive Agricultural Interventions under KP-RETP” in Peshawar. The session enhanced the capacities of participants from the Regional Coordination Units (RCUs), Newly Merged Districts (NMD’s) and Business Mobilisation Partners (BMPs) by strengthening their understanding of both theoretical frameworks and practical implementation approaches under KP-RETP.

A meeting was held with the Honorable Deputy Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Ms. Suraya Bibi, attended by the KP-RETP Team Agribusiness Manager and Regional Coordinator of the Chitral Cluster. The Deputy Speaker emphasized the need for youth skill development, support for dry fruit farmers and traders, and assistance for women livestock keepers in accessing local markets.

One-day training session on Gender, Nutrition, and SECAP Basics under KP-RETP was conducted for the PFO “Green Sholgara Professional Farmer Cooperative Organization, Charsadda, Central Cluster”  by the respective PMU experts. The session was monitored by the M&E Officer PMU.

 

April 16, 2025 

KP-RETP, KP-TEVTA, and UET Peshawar have partnered to boost Youth Employment in rural Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Through a new Memorandum Of Agreement (MOA), they will jointly deliver training programs in Vocational Skills, Agriculture, Entrepreneurship, and Emerging technologies. UET Peshawar will provide technical expertise to help train 60,000 Youth, ensuring at least 30% female participation. The initiative aims to align training with labor market needs, promoting employment and self-employment, and contributing to Rural Economic Transformation.

A IFAD Implementation Supervision Mission (ISM) meeting was held with KP-RETP staff to highlight progress and outline the future action plan. The IFAD mission expressed its appreciation for the advancements made by KP-RETP, and the meeting concluded with the Project Manager KP-RETP presenting shields to all Mission Members as a gesture of goodwill.

Regional Coordination Unit (RCU) North hosted an introductory meeting with the Helvetas team, led by Munawar Khattak Sb and Enterprise Development Specialist Mr. Qazi Ajwad. RCU North also provided a brief overview of the KP-RETP project components. A follow-up meeting will be scheduled soon for further orientation.

IFAD’s Implementation Support Mission (ISM) during the mission at PMU Peshawar conducted a comprehensive training session on RuralInvest software (Riv20 v2.5) was delivered by IFAD Mission team members, Mr. Fida and Mr. Fayaz, to enhance the capacity of staff in developing effective and sustainable Business Plans in the software.

 

April 12, 2025 

IFAD’s Implementation Support Mission (ISM) team visited the Agriculture Professional Farmers Cooperative Organization (PFO) in Nowshera. A large number of community farmers attended the meeting, during which a productive question-and-answer session took place between the IFAD team and the farmers. The concerns and queries raised were addressed satisfactorily by both sides.

The mission also toured the field areas, inspecting various fruit orchards, vegetable crops, and poultry farms. The visit was highly successful, and the IFAD team not only expressed great appreciation for the PFO’s efforts and progress but also commended the RCU-Central in development of the said PFO.

To review the Baseline Survey Report, a meeting was held between M&E Manager KPRETP and REPID (BMP) at the REPID Office . The KP-RETP team and Business Mobilization Partner (SMART researchers) held a meeting at PMU Peshawar. During the session, Manager Agribusiness provided an overview of the project’s components and activity targets, while Manager M&E/KM outlined the overall project objectives. The Manager Gender discussed the gender mainstreaming strategy, RC Manshera shared their experiences, and the Nutrition Officer, alongside the Environment and Climate Change Officer, shared insights on nutrition-sensitive value chains and climate-smart agriculture practices.Concluding the meeting, the Communication/KM Officer distributed IEC materials to BMP.

 

March 20, 2025 
A meeting was held with Business Mobilization Partner (REPID) at PMU Office, led by the Manager of Agribusiness & Agri Skills and attended by the Manager of Gender, RC Central and Southern Clusters, Environment & Climate Officer, Nutrition Officer, KM/Communication Officer, M&E Officer, Regional M&E (Central Cluster), and a REPID representatives. The Manager of Agribusiness & Agri Skills provided a detailed project orientation, and targets until December 2025 were discussed and agreed upon.

March 17, 2025 
One-day training session on Gender, Nutrition, and SECAP interventions under KP-RETP was conducted for the RCU D.I. Khan on Monday (17.03.2025) by the respective PMU experts, under the supervision of the M&E Officer PMU. The IT Officer assisted in organizing the on-line session. The RCU staff actively participated by completing pre- and post-training questionnaires.

March 06, 2025 
The Mansehra team of the KP RETP has documented several significant moments from their fieldwork, which included mobilizing the farming community and organizing the Annual General Meetings (AGMs) for six Potential Farmer Organizations (PFOs). Furthermore, we have completed all necessary formalities for four additional PFOs, and they are now ready to conduct their AGMs, pending approval from the top management of the Project. Finally, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Project Management Unit for their invaluable support and guidance, which made this achievement possible.

Dubhba Valley Multipurpose Cooperative Professional Farmer Organisation Holds Inaugural General Body Meeting. Garumchsama Valley witnessed a significant milestone today as the Dubhba Valley Multipurpose Cooperative, a professional farmer organization (PFO), held its first general body meeting. The event saw an impressive turnout, with 400 registered members in attendance.

Additionally, members extended their appreciation to the KP-RETP team for providing this valuable opportunity to officially register their PFO, especially during the holy month of Ramazan—a moment of great significance for the community. This event marks a promising beginning for the Dubhba Valley Multipurpose Cooperative, paving the way for enhanced collaboration and sustainable development in the agricultural sector.

 

March 06, 2025 
A meeting was held at the Project Management Unit (PMU) in Peshawar with Business Mobilization Partners, Helvetas and IDEA, for the Chitral and Northern clusters. Mr. Asad Saleem, Country Representative of Helvetas, along with their sector specialists, were also present. During the meeting, Mr. Muhammad Sajjad gave an overview of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rural Economic Transformation Project (KP-RETP), focusing on Component 1 — Agribusiness Development. A detailed discussion followed on various aspects of Component 1.
The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement on key action points and timelines to ensure effective collaboration and progress.

Feburary 28, 2025
On February 28th, 2025, the PMU team held separate meetings with male and female members of PFO Kotali- Kabal Swat. During these meetings, the team sensitized the PFO representatives, including members, about the inclusion of marginalized groups such as women, youth, and the ultra-poor. The meetings covered issues related to women’s and youth inclusion, Nutrition, and SECAP in detail with the PFO members.

Feburary 27, 2025

The first Annual General Body Meeting of the Cooperative Professional Organization (PFO) in Village SEEN, District Lower Chitral, was successfully held in Village SEEN. The event was attended by District Drawing and Disbursing Officer Mr. Mehrab Nabi, Inspector Navved Ahmad, Sub-Inspector Sadaat Ahmad, community representatives, and the newly appointed management committee. The management committee of PFO expressed appreciation for the KP-RETP intervention in this remote village of Chitral. A key milestone of this initiative is the historic inclusion of both men and women as members of the PFO, marking the first time such collaborative participation has taken place in SEEN Village. The participants emphasized that this achievement is credited to the efforts of KP-RETP in fostering inclusivity and community development.

 

Feburary 25, 2025 
KP-RETP PMU team organized a one-day training session on Gender, Nutrition, Environment, and Climate Change at Camp Koroona, Nowshera. The session, led by the Manager for Gender, the Nutrition Officer, and the Environment & Climate Change Officer, was attended by members of a PFO named ‘Agriculture Professional Network (APN)”. To ensure the session was impactful, the M&E Officer from PMU was present to oversee and support the process. The training aimed to enhance understanding and promote better practices in these important areas.

Feburary 24, 2025 
The KP-RETP PMU team successfully organized a one-day training session dated 24th February on Gender, Nutrition, Environment and Climate Change. The session was conducted by the Manager for Gender, the Nutrition Officer, and the Environment & Climate Change Officer. It was attended by the RCU Peshawar team, including Field Consultants working in the Newly Merged Districts (NMDs). The M&E Officer from PMU also monitored the session to ensure its effectiveness. The training aimed to enhance understanding and promote better practices in these key areas.

Feburary 20, 2025  
With the grace of Almighty Allah, RCU Mansehra team has successfully conducted AGM in the Bandi dost Muhammad famer organizations (PFCO). Cooperative department representative and PFCOs members were present during the meeting. Active participation was observed from farmers/community. Documentation and record were maintained for further process.

Feburary 18, 2025 
With the grace of Almighty Allah and the tireless efforts of the RCU team, we successfully conducted the second Annual General Body Meeting of our PFO in Toha, Tehsil Charbagh, today. The meeting was attended by five members from cooperative department and RCU team, all requisite forms and documentation were duly completed. Once processed at the district level by the Cooperative Societies, the case will be forwarded to the Provincial Registrar for final approval.
 

December 11, 2024 
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between KP-RETP and KP-TEVTA was signed to create diverse employment and self-employment opportunities for rural women and youth, boosting economic growth and job prospects in the region.
